Operation Christmas Child

Want to get involved with Operation Christmas Child?

In the year of 2020, life has taken on a new meaning of normal, but that doesn’t have to apply to
everything. There are multiple ways for you to get involved with OCC that will fit with
everyone’s preference of social distancing and fellowship.

Fill a Shoebox
1. Take an empty shoebox from our display.
2. Fill it with items for either a girl or boy. (see “Shoebox Gift Ideas”)
3. Chose and an age group of 2-4 years, 5-9 years or 10-14 years.
4. Pray for the child who will receive the gift.
5. Include the $9 donation help cover shipping costs and other project costs.
6. Bring your filled shoebox into the church during collection week.

Build a Shoebox Online
Lighthouse has created a “goal page” to see if we can pack 50 shoeboxes online for 2020.
1. Click on this link and you will go directly to the Samaritan’s Purse website that will
allow you to begin building a shoebox, and that box will count toward Lighthouse’s
Shoebox Goal.
2. Simply select toys and other fun items that are offered.
3. Personalize your gift with your own letter and photo.
4. Pay the suggested donation of $25.

Donations can come in all forms.
1. Donate items from the “Shoebox Gift Ideas”. Maybe you found some good sales but
didn’t want to fill an entire shoebox. No problem, we will take them and combine them
with other donations to make a complete and filled shoebox. Please bring your donations
to the church before November 16th.
2. Money is always a great donation. We can use this to help cover the $9 donation per box
or purchase additional items to fill the boxes.

Volunteer during Collection Week (Nov. 16-23)
1. November 16-20 (Mon-Fri) from 9:00am-4:00pm, we will begin accepting shoeboxes
that have been assembled for children around the world. With all the routines that have
been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, we want to encourage every person to feel
safe in bringing their shoeboxes to Lighthouse Church. So instead of people bringing
their shoeboxes into the Church, we will meet them outside at the curb to fill out
necessary paperwork and unload shoeboxes from their cars. To accomplish this, we will
need 2-3 helpers per day.
2. Then on Monday, November 23rd from 9:00am-3:00pm, other drop-off centers will be
bringing in their shipping boxes to be loaded onto large trucks located in our parking lot.
We will need volunteers throughout the day who are able to lift heavy boxes.
3. Face masks and gloves will be provided to all helpers. If you are interested in helping on
any of these days, please contact Tracey Hecker at 913-294-2400 and she will work you
into the schedule or you can sign up below.
